Haip PMS Cloud

Do I need a separate channel manager if I have a PMS?

Short answer: It depends on whether your PMS connects to the channels you sell on and keeps availability and rates in sync on its own. If it does, a separate channel manager is usually one more system to pay for and keep aligned. If it doesn't, or you sell on channels your PMS can't reach, a separate one still makes sense.

What a channel manager actually does

A channel manager sends your availability, rates and restrictions out to OTAs and other channels, and brings reservations back in. Every PMS needs this job done somehow. The question is whether the PMS does it itself or hands it to another system.

1. Availability out. When a room is booked, moved or put out of order, every channel needs to know straight away. A slow update is how a room gets sold twice.

2. Rates and restrictions out. Rate plans, minimum stays and closed dates have to reach each channel the way you set them.

3. Reservations in. Bookings, changes and cancellations from each channel have to land in the PMS with the right room type, rate and guest details.

4. Mapping. Each room type and rate plan has to be matched to the right listing on each channel. Most sync problems start with a mapping mistake.

When a separate channel manager makes sense

Your PMS doesn't connect to your channels. If the channels that bring you bookings aren't supported by your PMS, you need something in between.

You sell on many smaller or regional channels. Dedicated channel managers often connect to a long list of channels. If a large share of your bookings comes from channels outside your PMS's list, that matters.

Your team already runs one well. If your mapping is clean, overbookings are rare and the cost is fair, changing just for the sake of it brings risk without much gain.

You manage several properties with different PMSs. One channel manager across mixed systems can be simpler than several separate connections.

When it's one system too many

You pay twice for the same job. A channel manager fee on top of a PMS that could connect directly is money spent on the link between two systems.

Two systems, two versions of the truth. Every sync between a PMS and a channel manager is a place where availability or rates can drift. When something goes wrong, you have two vendors to call.

Setup lives in two places. Room types and rate plans have to be kept the same in both systems. A change made in one and forgotten in the other shows up as a wrong rate or a missing room on a channel.

Questions to ask any PMS vendor

Which channels do you connect to today, for hotels like mine? Ask for the list that is live now, not a roadmap.

Is the connection built in, or through a partner? Both can work. You should know who to call when a booking doesn't arrive.

How quickly do availability changes reach each channel? Ask what happens after a walk-in, a room move or an out-of-order room.

What do channel connections cost? Find out whether channel fees carry a markup and whether connections are priced per channel.

How HAIP PMS Cloud fits

Channels in one place. A commission-free direct booking engine is included, and HAIP Cloud works with the channel manager you already use, including Channex, SiteMinder, DerbySoft and Beds24. Reservations, rates and channel connections sit on one data model, and channel costs are passed through at cost, with no Telivity markup.

Room status next to your reservations. Arrivals, in-house and departures sit in one view with room moves, walk-ins and live room status (Vacant Clean, Vacant Dirty, Inspected, Out of Order), in the same system as your reservations.

No servers to install. Telivity hosts, monitors and updates HAIP PMS Cloud, so there is no hardware at the hotel and no upgrades for your team to run.

Everyone gets a login. Unlimited staff seats with role permissions come with the core plan.

Clear pricing. HAIP PMS Cloud starts at $199 a month per property. Billing is month-to-month, and you can cancel anytime. A card is needed before go-live.
